Darley invites applications for the 2014 Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships
Darley, the global thoroughbred breeding operation founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, invites applications for the 2014 Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships programme.
Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships are 10-month fully funded internships for recent Chinese university graduates. During the internship the selected trainees will be provided with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at one of Darley’s thoroughbred horse facilities in one of Australia, Britain, Ireland, Japan or the USA. In addition, trainees will travel to Dubai for two weeks to gain further experience in the local horse racing industry and learn how His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has been instrumental in the development of the Emirate over the past four decades.
At Darley, the trainees will experience the professional disciplines of equine husbandry, agriculture, veterinary medicine, marketing, stallion nomination sales, finance, human resources and business administration. Regional placements will ensure an optimal learning experience for all trainees.
The internships commence in August 2014 and end in June of the following year. All internships start with an initial two-week training period in Beijing then the trainees will travel to their regional Darley location until December. In December all the trainees will travel to Dubai for a two-week training and interaction period following which they will have a three-week break prior to returning to their regional Darley location until graduation.
On completion of the internships the trainees are expected to have gained a broad understanding of the global thoroughbred industry and international best practice in business management. They will also benefit from improved English language skills and an appreciation for the history, culture and future of the UAE.
Darley will be responsible for all course-related travel and accommodation costs and a monthly living allowance will be paid to cover meals and incidental day-to-day expenses. Darley will provide all tuition at its own expense.
Approximately 30 internships will be offered next year. Selection will be based on completion of the application form found on the Dubai Internships website, English language proficiency (CET level 4 and above) and interview.
